A Peek Inside the Journey…

SKRUGZ began as a passion project for artist Schae Kelly in Spring of 2023.

Surrounded by a family of talented artists and musicians, Schae was inspired to carve out her own niche in the art world. What started as a personal journey quickly evolved as she discovered the joy her pieces brought to people.

Before diving into the unsung world of tufting, Schae dedicated her free time over the span of two years (in the midst of the COVID pandemic) saving up, watching, researching and mastering what she could via other tufting artists. During that time, it’s all she could do as she didn’t have the space necessary and the world was in crisis.

In spring 2023, she took the first big leap— renting a storage unit outside the city where she built her very first frame, and her very first rug. Embarking on this journey filled with trial, error, and plenty of real blood, sweat and tears— she realized how special it would become to her.

After a year of hands on dedication—and many beautiful lessons along the way—she transitioned to her current home workshop in Charlotte, NC, with dreams of one day having her very own studio.

Each piece is handmade with immense love, precision and heaps of positive energy, focusing on all the detail.
